A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Shakespeare’s iconic comedy and one of his most popular and widely performed plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, gets a contemporary treatment from Spanish choreographer and former Luna Negra Artistic Director, Gustavo Ramírez Sansano, with help from his award-winning set designer friend and fellow Spanish artist Luis Crespo, who previously created the set’s for Ihsan Rustem’s remarkable Carmen, and NW Dance Project Artistic Director Sarah Slipper’s full evening work, Hedda, which was performed in Portland in late March (2025). Regarding the sets, Oregon Arts Watch noted "a striking, minimalist contemporary living room designed by set designer Luis Crespo. This space perfectly balances light and dark, elegance and tension, creating dramatic contrasts with flair…The overall image was crisp, featuring clean lines and deliberate contrasts, offering no unnecessary distractions, only the essentials.”

Piaf
Acclaimed international dance-maker Ihsan Rustem returns to the company that provided him with his first commissioned work for his 14th creation for NW Dance Project. Completely inspired by and featuring the unmistakable music and voice of French songbird Edith Piaf, who would have turned 110 this year, Ihsan’s movement and series of lyrical vignettes serve as homage to the music of France's greatest popular singer, and nothing more. Usually known for his sweeping narrative works brimming with tension and focus, this time around, he’s jumping headlong into the music to lead and shape the movement.
