Church of Outhouse: An Easter Drag Spectacle & Zine Release
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
Strap on your frilliest bonnet and join the queer congregation this Easter Sunday for the release of Selene Latrine’s Outhouse Zine Issue #4. To celebrate, this will be a fully immersive psychedelic service and drag spectacle for the ages.
This installment of Outhouse imagines a world where the tales of Easter, the Christian canon, and its culture are populated with divine queer and trans characters. The Church of Outhouse is a mega-church that centers on nature, indulgence, revelry, love, and “sin.” Writhe joyfully and lift your voice to an album of originally recorded hymns. Bear witness as celestial entities make themselves known. Peruse and tithe for the newest issue, a delight for the eyes chock full of collages created by the miraculous cast (and available for only $7 at the show).
Featuring Esteemed Clergy and Deities:
- Church of Outhouse Family Band: Sabine Latrine, Selene Latrine, Topsy Tail
- Traveling Preacher Feature/the Fissure Sisters: one-half NelSon, Ry Bred
- Visiting Choir Director: Khadijah Diamond (via the ether)
- God: The Infinite Urkscape
- Jesus: Tingles Van Pelt
- Virgin Mary: Romie Romak
- Easter Bunny Devil: Ed Du’Bull
- The Holy Ghost: Ezza Belle
Selene Latrine's Outhouse Zine is a queer publication that's over-the-top, bombastic and fun and eschews conventional separations of art forms. Each zine contains artwork (essays, song lyrics, comics, collages) by local Portland drag artists reflecting on a theme. Each issue wraps with an epic release party where each contributor has an opportunity to add performance elements to their piece. So far, three issues have been published: Outhouse #1: Arms and Legs; Outhouse #2 Bitchowar (a doggy metal parody zine;) and Outhouse #3 ads…Ads…ADS!!!
Selene Latrine’s Outhouse Zine is honored to be funded in part by the Regional Arts and Culture Council and the Office of Arts and Culture.
This show will feature ASL Interpretation.
The show is offering a limited number of free and reduced-cost show tickets on a first-come-first-served basis for community members with financial barriers. Please consider your ability to support the show and zine.
