Concertante! 19th-century Duets
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
For the last concerts of the 2024-25 season, Musica Maestrale presents a program of charming and rarely-heard chamber music for two guitars and mandolin and guitar, mostly from the early 19th century (and some from the late 18th). The highly distinguished guest artist, James Bishop Edwards from Eugene, will play Romantic guitar and terz guitar (a smaller-sized guitar tuned to G), and MM artistic director Hideki Yamaya will play Romantic guitar and Lombard mandolin (a single-strung mandolin tuned in fourths like a guitar). All of the instruments performed are originals from the era. This is a rare opportunity to hear this music as it was intended, on warmer-voiced instruments.
