Alien Boy
You Wanna Fade? follows 2021's acclaimed Don't Know What I Am and finds Alien Boy digging deeper into all the best parts of the pop-rock-by-way-of-shoegaze sound. The album's widescreen scope was the result of a lengthy writing and recording process with numerous collaborators: first drums with Andy Rusinek; then guitars and bass with Phil Jones (Supercrush); and lastly the vocals and various overdubs by guitarist Caleb Misclevitz with help from Nathan Tucker (Strange Ranger, Cool Original, Pontiac Flare) who also provided additional production and instrumentation. The densely layered songs were finally handed over to Jack Shirely (Deafheaven, Gouge Away, Jeff Rosenstock) for mixing and mastering.
The result is an album that stretches Alien Boy’s sound in exciting new directions while also offering their most instantly satisfying songs to date. "I was looking at the records that I turn to the most–Third Eye Blind’s self-titled and Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream," Weber explains, "I really wanted to capture that kind of grandness, the kind of thing that has a lot of dimensions and isn’t actually that concise.” Cutting through the towering arrangements are Weber's untouchable melodies and unabashedly longing lyrics that somehow imbue the most relatable feelings with a sense of earth-shattering stakes. You Wanna Fade? is a record that sounds huge and also feels huge.
