Free First Thursday
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
Portland Art Museum invites the community to join a special Free First Thursday event, offering free admission to the museum for all. This unique day includes a chance to explore the stunning Monet’s Floating Worlds at Giverny, along with special exhibitions Psychedelic Rock Posters, Fashion of the 1960s and Throughlines: Connections in the Collection.
In addition to this remarkable exhibition, Free First Thursday visitors can participate in two creative, hands-on workshops inspired by the art:
- Paper Flower Workshop: Craft Beauty Inspired by Waterlilies. Imagining the stillness of Monet’s gardens in France, flower farmer Beth Crowley invites you to tap into the calm, slow down, and create a water lily out of paper. She hopes the positive force that comes from creativity will help bring energy and peace. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Washi Paper Flowers: Experience the Elegance of Japanese Aesthetics through Paper Artistry. Create washi paper collages inspired by the beauty of Japanese prints. Using washi, a beautiful and time-honored Japanese paper, layer textured pieces to create unique compositions. This hands-on craft highlights the elegance of Japanese aesthetics through paper artistry. With Teaching Artist Kanani Miyamoto. 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Both workshops are free as part of Free First Thursday at the Portland Art Museum and PAM CUT’s Tomorrow Theater, where visitors can join a live taping of OPB’s podcast The Evergreen. Come tap into your creativity, relax, and connect with the beauty of art, culture, and nature.
